A dictation goes where you
started talking.
When a dictation finishes, EnviousWispr delivers it to the place you started. It remembers the app, window and text field that were in front when you pressed your recording key. AI polish can take a few seconds, and you might click somewhere else while you wait. Your words still go back to the window you started in, even when the app has several windows open, such as two browser windows.
If that window is gone by the time your text is ready, EnviousWispr does not paste into a different one. It leaves your words on the clipboard and shows the Copied notice, so nothing lands in the wrong place.
Paste Last Dictation is different on purpose: it pastes wherever your cursor is when you press it, so you choose the place.
It writes into the text box directly, then tries a normal paste, then the app’s own Edit, Paste menu.
If all three fail, your words stay on the clipboard and a notice tells you so. Where an app hides a missed paste, Paste Last Dictation still brings the words back.
Choose Paste Last Dictation from the menu. The start of the text is shown under it, so you can check before you click.
Drop the same thought
into a second app.
Dictated a status update into Slack and want it in an email as well? Click into the email and press Control Command V. The newest dictation in your History is pasted again, with no need to open History or repeat yourself.
Copy Last Dictation puts the same text on your clipboard instead, for apps where you want to paste it yourself. Your Restore clipboard after paste setting is respected here too.
In Terminal, Control Command V is normally Paste Escaped Text. If you rely on it, pick other keys in Settings, Keybinds.
Imported file transcripts, deleted items and a cancelled dictation still counting down are skipped.
History lives in your user folder. Envious Labs never receives a copy of it.
Pasting needs one
macOS permission.
EnviousWispr needs Accessibility permission to type into other apps. Without it, the Paste Last Dictation menu item opens the permission settings for you and the paste keys do nothing, while Copy Last Dictation still works.
What to do when your dictation does not pasteQuestions people ask
How do I paste my last dictation again on a Mac?
In EnviousWispr, a free dictation app for Mac, click into the text box and press Control Command V, or choose Paste Last Dictation from the EnviousWispr menu bar menu. Your newest dictation is pasted where your cursor is now, so you do not have to say it again.
Where did my dictation go when nothing was pasted?
When every way of delivering the text fails, EnviousWispr leaves your words on the clipboard and shows a Copied notice, so you can press Command V yourself. In most apps it does the same when it can see a paste went nowhere, for example with no text box selected. Some apps do not show enough to tell; Paste Last Dictation works there too.
Can I change the Paste Last Dictation shortcut?
Yes. Both keybinds live in Settings, Keybinds. Choose different keys if another app already uses them: in Terminal, Control Command V is normally Paste Escaped Text, and some apps such as Final Cut Pro use Control Command C.
Which dictation counts as the last one?
The newest dictation in History. Imported file transcripts, deleted items and a cancelled dictation still counting down are skipped. When there is nothing to reuse, the menu item is greyed out.
