Hands-Free Mode (Long Dictation)
For when you do not want to hold the key down: lock recording on and keep talking.
Hands-free mode locks recording on, for when you do not want to hold the key down while you talk. This mode suits any text longer than a sentence or two, such as a blog post, a long email, or meeting notes.
Turning on hands-free mode
EnviousWispr relies on a double tap of your keybind to lock the recording in place. This works whenever you have push to talk selected as your recording mode.
Tap, then tap again. Start your recording with a normal press of your keybind, then press it a second time within half a second, before you let go.
The on-screen bar changes to confirm that recording is locked on. If it does not change, the second press came too late, and the recording ends as usual when you release the key. Try the double tap a little quicker.
Stopping recording
You have two choices when you finish speaking, depending on whether you want to keep what you said.
Press your keybind once. Stop recording and insert your text into the app you were working in.
Press Escape. Stop recording and discard the audio without producing any text.
Time limits
A single hands-free session can last up to one hour. EnviousWispr shows a warning one minute before that limit, then stops on its own and writes out everything you said.
Stopping automatically on silence
You can have EnviousWispr end a recording by itself after a pause in your speech.
Open settings. Click the EnviousWispr icon in your menu bar, choose Settings, and go to the Transcription tab.
Switch on silence detection. Turn on Stop recording on silence. This setting is off by default.
Set the pause length. Use the slider beneath the switch to choose how long you have to pause before recording stops, anywhere from half a second to three seconds.
