Toggle Mode
Press once to start recording, press again to stop.
Toggle mode changes how you interact with your recording keybind. Instead of holding the key down for every sentence, you press the keybind once to start recording and press it again to stop.
Using toggle mode
When you want to capture speech without keeping a finger on a key, one press is enough to begin.
Press your keybind. Click into any text box and press your keybind once. Recording starts and the audio bar appears on your screen.
Speak your thoughts. Dictate at your normal pace while EnviousWispr captures your voice.
Press the keybind again. Stop the recording with a second press. The transcribed text appears at your cursor.
When to select toggle mode
This mode suits some working styles better than the default push-to-talk behaviour.
- You would rather not hold a key down while you talk.
- You know in advance exactly when you want to stop recording.
Configuring toggle mode
You can switch to this mode in settings.
Open settings. Click the EnviousWispr icon in your menu bar and choose Settings.
Go to Keybinds. Open the Keybinds tab.
Select Toggle. Under 1. Choose recording mode, pick Toggle.
You will know the setting took effect when a single press starts recording instead of requiring a constant hold. The recording keybind stays the same in both modes, so the rest of your setup remains unchanged. Pressing the Escape key still cancels and discards a recording.
The double-press lock from push to talk does not apply in toggle mode. There is nothing to lock on, because your hands are already free.
