Auto-Updates

EnviousWispr checks for updates by itself and tells you when a new version is ready to install. When one arrives, you click to install it, and the app restarts into the updated version.

Check for updates now

You do not have to wait for the background check. You can start one yourself in either of two places:

• Menu bar. Click the EnviousWispr icon in your menu bar and choose Check for Updates….
• App window. Click the gift button (What’s New & Updates) in the window’s toolbar, then click Check for Updates…. It starts a check at once.

Keep the menu bar icon unchanged

When an update is ready, the menu bar icon changes to tell you. To keep the icon unchanged, go to App Settings > Appearance and switch off Update alert in menu bar. You can still install updates from the menu bar menu or the gift button.

An update does not appear

If checking does nothing, or you stay on an old version, the most likely cause is where the app is running from. An app opened straight from Downloads or from the disk image cannot replace itself. See Updates Never Arrive: Move EnviousWispr to Applications.

Where updates come from

Every update is downloaded from the official EnviousWispr release page. The app checks each download’s digital signature, which proves it came from Envious Labs and was not changed on the way. An update that fails the check is refused.

See what changed in an update

The gift button (What’s New & Updates) in the window’s toolbar lists what changed in the version you are on. EnviousWispr never opens it for you. When there is something new to read, the gift icon shimmers until you open it.
