Download and Install
How to get EnviousWispr onto your Mac and open it the first time.
EnviousWispr is a free, open-source dictation app for macOS. Installing it takes about two minutes, and there is no account to create and no subscription to start.
Install it
Download the disk image. Go to enviouswispr.com and download the installer file, which ends in the extension .dmg.
Open the file. Double-click the downloaded file to mount the disk image. A window appears showing the EnviousWispr icon alongside the Applications folder.
Move the application. Drag the EnviousWispr icon directly onto the Applications folder icon shown beside it.
Open the app. Open your Applications folder and double-click EnviousWispr to run it for the first time.
The first time you open it
macOS may show a security warning because you downloaded the application from the internet. Click Open to proceed.
EnviousWispr then walks you through setup. You will choose a speech engine, pick the keybind you will hold down while dictating, and grant the macOS permissions it needs.
How you know it worked
Look at the top right of your screen in the menu bar. The EnviousWispr icon sits there quietly. Clicking that icon is how you open settings and history from now on. The application runs entirely from the menu bar, which means there is no Dock icon and no window left open on your desktop.
Updates
EnviousWispr checks for updates automatically and tells you when a new version is ready to install. You never need to download the installer file again by hand.
